Question: What’s common to the works of Hayao Miyazaki and Takeshi Kitano?
Answer: Joe Hisaishi is the soundtrack composer of many of Kitano’s films. And of Miyazaki’s whole filmography.
A quick comparison. In 2001 he composed the soundtracks of Kitano’s Brother and Miyazaki’s Spirited Away. Believe me, you don’t want anyone under the age of 14 to see Brother.
It’s been surprising that Kitano would choose the same composer that produced the music for Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Laputa: Castle in the Sky and My Neighbor Totoro to create the soundtracks of Sonatine, Violent Cop and the aforementioned Brother.
But if you see through the violence of Kitano’s films, the messages are many times the same than Miyazaki’s.
Besides, many people don’t know Kitano’s Kikujiro, a movie that I’ll show to my children very soon.
